fun times with math and monkeys

I have read other books in this series with my three year old daughter, but this one really takes the monkey counting thing to the next level. Some monkeys go away, other monkeys join the group, and before you know it your little one is learning to add and subtract without a formal lesson! I always had to preface the book by telling my daughter that of course kids should never go where a grownup cannot see them in the store.

Christelow's Five Little Monkeys juggernaut rolls along, this time with a book that subtly teaches basic addition and subtraction skills as the FLM and their mom shop for school clothes. The book abandons the rhyme scheme of the previous entries in the series, which mmakes for a refreshing change. Very likable entry in the series; it keeps getting better as it goes on. *** ½

Shopping with five little monkeys! Oh my! Oh my!

It's back-to-school time and the five little monkeys go shopping for clothes and supplies. No matter that Mama has given them strict instructions to stay with her and not wander off, it is not long before one of them does. Mama, obviously worried and needing to find the offender, tells the remaining four little monkeys to stay put whilst she goes looking for the fifth little monkey. Do they all obey? Of course not!
At one point in this story there are fourteen little monkey all together! How did that happen?
Fun to read, well-written, expressive illustrations and a great story. One of our favorites!
