Tacky in the summer time

Tacky is back in his newest adventure. This time Tacky and his friends are off to camp. They enjoy lots of camp activities and Tacky puts his own shin on things. He starts to aggravate his fellow campers with his odd ways. When a bear comes to the camp site one night Tacky saves the day in a very unique way. After that the penguins decide that it's ok to be different!
This is a must read for fellow Tacky fans! This will make a great addition to the library, a perfect summer time read aloud for kids ages 4-7.

Everyone who has ever gone to camp is going to delight in tacky Tacky's hilarious camp adventure! "Whoopihaha ho-ho!"

It was summer time and all the young penguins were heading to Camp Whoopihaha. It might not look like regular camp with icicles galore hanging from the tents, snow filled canoes and a campfire area covered with snow, but it sure was going to be fun. Goodly, Lovely, Angel, Neatly and Perfect all brought "normal" stuff like a first aid kit, a canteen, a sleeping bag, trail mix, and things like socks and a flashlight. BUT there was Tacky and he brought pizza, a television, cookies, a pair of roller skates and utterly ridiculous looking pjs. That was Tacky, the tackiest penguin at Camp Whoopihaha. Everyone had perfect name tags, but Tacky had one that looked like a banner. Their tents were picture perfect, but his looked like a circus tent.
Activities were grand but Tacky was a dud. When everyone was practicing synchronized swimming, his toes were in the air and his head underwater. He was a flop as an archer and zinged Neatly with a perfect seven arrows. Tacky was . . . well, he was tacky. He was great at tipping a canoe and his singing was whoopi, whoopi awful. He hogged most of the marshmallows when they make s'mores and his scary stories were tackier than his singing. Later than night a big bad polar bear came shouting, "BEWARE THE BEAR." He began to eat everything in sight including a guitar, but something tacky smelled especially nice. Hmmmmmm, what was that bear going to try to eat next?
Everyone who has ever gone to camp is going to delight in tacky Tacky's hilarious camp adventure. Tacky is one of those hilarious characters who seemingly doesn't seem to notice that he is the odd duck in the bunch, nor does he seem to care. I loved each and every one of his glorious misadventures. Of course my favorite scene was when all the other little penguins were toasting one marshmallow and Tacky, no fool, decided he would toast a hundred and one. The artwork brings out the hilarity of the tale and endears Tacky to the reader. If you want to read about the world's best camper, it has got to be Whoopihaha's Tacky!

Munsinger's illustrations keep getting better!

Another adventure about loveable Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester--and he would not be Tacky if he were not illustrated by Lynn Munsinger! Tacky and his companions, Goodly, Lovely, Neatly, Angel and Perfect, are going to sleepover summer camp. Of course his companions do everything in order the way penguins do, but as we know, Tacky is an odd bird. He dresses unfashionably, creates sloppy art projects with abandon, and eats like a slob. But despite his wayward ways, Tacky always manages to save the day in a moment of trouble. There's a really cute twist to this story.
